$100,000. That's the amount that Us Weekly paid Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston for the engagement exclusive, according to the New York Post. Add in a possible reality show (that would no doubt make The Newlyweds seem like See it Now) and the surprise engagement begins to make a lot of sense.

Back in the day, one of my slightly older mentors proposed a special Academy Award just for being Liz Taylor. We thought it was funny at the time. Now, these unemployable nobodies think they're interesting enough to deserve to be paid -- exorbitantly -- to go about their daily lives as "reality stars." The media pass it off as entertainment, and we're supposed to eat it up. I just don't get it.
