Agatha Von Trapp, the oldest of the Trapp Family Singers, has died in Towson, Maryland. She was portrayed in the movie as 16 going on 17 Liesl. From the AP:
Von Trapp, 97, died Tuesday at a hospice in the Baltimore suburb of Towson after suffering congestive heart failure in November, said Mary Louise Kane. Kane and von Trapp lived together for five decades and ran a kindergarten at the Sacred Heart Catholic parish in nearby Glyndon until 1993.
Von Trapp, who apparently never married nor had children, was described in the article as far more reserved than Charmain Carr's Liesl. Her brother Johannes described her as a very private person and a talented sketch artist. The picture is from her 1948 petition to become a naturalized US citizen. She will be buried at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont.

A good age to go.
You know how I LOVE all things "Sound of Music," so thank you for posting.
Agatha/Liesl had had a good, long, and...one hopes...happy life. After reading your posting, one wonders if the real Liesl was singing and prancing around with Rolfe or Rolfanna. I don't mean to sapphically slander the dead, but...well...50 years with Mary Louise? I'm just sayin'.
This posting got me to clicking about, looking at some things about the original Broadway company (1959). And I found this recent photo [link below] of Lori Peters, Broadway's original, Tony-nominated Liesl. Ahhhh...hmmmm...what to say...? I guess something philosophical about time standing still for no one...not even a musical-theater ingenue?

Yes Doug, I thought you might pick up on the subtlety of Von Trapp living with a woman for 50 years. They ran a kindergarten. I believe the old fashioned term for such ladies is old maid school teachers. As for Lori Peters, all I can say is God Bless Her.
