Polly Platt: 1939-2011
Film producer and production designer Polly Platt has died at the age of 72. The cause was Lou Gehrig's disease. She was known primarily for her professional collaboration with two men: Peter Bogdanovich, who was also her husband, and James L. Brooks. She was the art director on several Bogdanovich films including The Last Picture Show, What's Up Doc, and Paper Moon. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her art direction on Terms of Endearment, directed by Mr. Brooks. She also served as art director on the Streisand production of A Star is Born. She was the producer or executive producer of several Brooks-directed films including Broadcast News, The War of the Roses, and Bottle Rocket.
