Rick Perry Blasts Obama for Gay Rights Stance

Yesterday, President Obama issued a memorandum directing "all agencies engaged abroad to ensure that U.S. diplomacy and foreign assistance promote and protect the human rights of LGBT persons."  In light of what's going on in many parts of the world, with gays being thrown in jail and killed just for being gay, I would say this memorandum is incredibly appropriate.  Of course, Rick Perry fired back, calling it a "silly idea" and an assault on "faith."

"Promoting special rights for gays in foreign countries is not in America’s interests and not worth a dime of taxpayers’ money."

The right not to be hunted down and murdered is not a "special right."  Perry will never see that because he doesn't see us as human beings.  He opposes anything that humanizes us.  I am heartened that, as of this posting, only 142 people have "liked" Perry's statement on Facebook.

Timothy Kinkaid, writing on Box Turtle Bulletin, had this to say:

"Ideologically, it’s difficult to conceptualize a greater enemy to gay people. Santorum, perhaps. But never has there ever been in modern times a President who held the level of personal animosity that Rick Perry has for you. Not Eisenhower, not Nixon, not Johnson, not Reagan, and neither Bush. It is inconceivable that Perry could have the personal gay friendships of Reagan, the gay appointments of the Bushes, and certainly not the supportive views of Carter, Clinton, Ford, or Obama. None of the other credible GOP candidates, Romney, Gingrich, or even Bachmann would be worse."

That this is a Hail Mary pass from the candidate trailing the pack is obvious, but the overriding fact, of course, is that Perry is a moron.
