Oh Canada?

Is Canada's conservative (of course) government fucking with us?  Wes and I were married in Beautiful British Columbia in 2007 and now at least one government lawyer says that foreign marriages that wouldn't have been legal if performed in the home country aren't valid in Canada.  Why the hell else does he think we came to Canada to get married in the first place?  The lawyer filed a brief stating this fucking position in the case of a US lesbian couple who were married in Toronto in 2006 and now want a divorce.  So, after welcoming us (and our money), this lawyer wants to shit all over me and Wes?  Yes, it is that personal.  Why is it so hard for these people to realize that gay people are human beings?  Why must they constantly dehumanize us?  As you may have noticed, I'm seriously pissed off at this government lawyer who thinks he can casually kick us in the face.
But wait, there's more.  In the face of a massive international shitstorm stirred up by this self-righteous prick (who I realize wasn't acting on his own; he was part of a staff of self-righteous pricks), the Justice Minister and Prime Minister Harper have both said that the government will not seek to reopen the definition of marriage.  Neither stated categorically, however, that foreign same sex marriages that could not be performed in the home countries are valid in Canada.

I would like to say that all of the Canadians that we met on our wedding trip were lovely people and couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming.  Obviously, we didn't meet any government lawyers.
