Romney Beats Santorum by 8 Votes!

Rick Santorum has been sliding along the bottom for a year, but suddenly popped up at the last minute and almost won the Iowa caucuses.  Mitt Romney, the rich, establishment candidate who has spent millions, won by only 8 votes.  That's not 8%, but 8 actual Iowa Republican voters.  In all, Romney got 24.6%, Santorum got 24.5%, Paul got 21.4%, Gingrich managed 13.3, and Rick Perry ended up with 10.3%.  The others were in single digits.

Iowa Republicans seemed to try on all the other candidates as viable alternatives to Romney and, one by one, found them wanting.  It was just a couple of weeks ago that Gingrich was riding high, then Ron Paul had a brief turn as the flavor of the moment.  Santorum's surge came at the right time to propel him almost to the top.  Clearly, Santorum was the winner last night, even though Romney got a few more votes, because Santorum far exceeded expectations.  Will Santorum now be the Mike Huckabee of 2012?  Was this a fluke that won't be repeated in any other state?  Or will he be the Jimmy Carter of 2012?  Carter was a largely unknown candidate who used his Iowa victory to ultimately win the Presidency.  I suspect the former, but who knows?  Maybe God told Pat Robertson that Santorum will win in November.

Romney will now focus on Santorum like a fire hose, and there's lots to focus on.  Santorum is a bizarre, radical figure who lost his own re-election to the Senate from Pennsylvania by a landslide.  If there's one thing I do know at this point, things will get ugly in South Carolina.

By the way, Rick Perry is "suspending" his campaign.

You used your magic! I knew you could do it! Plus, I'm glad that this primary thingy will now force some of these people out of the public eye. Tired of the media indulging in their crazy.

Did you see this morning's Borowitz Report headline:

"Romney Jubilant After Finishing in Dead Heat with Walking Joke in Sweater Vest."

I'd rather the GOP nominate Santorum than Romney. Either one will lose to Obama. But Santorum would be far, FAR easier to beat considering he's a nutjob.
